How to Treat Acne Under the Skin

Acne can be due to a variety of issues. Common causes of acne include hormone levels, bacteria, clogged pores and poor nutrition. When acne protrudes to the surface of the skin, it commonly takes the form of blackheads or whiteheads. Acne under the skin can manifest itself as painful cyst-like bumps. They generally appear red and swollen. Thankfully, there are things you can do to treat under-skin acne. With regular care, you can significantly improve the situation and even get rid of it for good. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Wash your skin, using an antibacterial cleanser. Do this twice daily to remove acne-causing bacteria. Makeup, sweat and excess oil can also clog your pores, contributing to your under-skin acne.

  • Exfoliate your skin, using a scrub. Dead skin cells can clog your pores, keeping acne under your skin. If you regularly remove these dead cells, you encourage a fresh, clear complexion. Use a scrub twice weekly for best results.

  • Dip a cotton ball in toner or astringent and apply it to your skin. Toner or astringent helps to tighten pores and maintain skin's chemical balance. As a result, oil production levels are regulated, thereby discouraging under-skin acne.

  •  Use a deep-cleansing mask on your under-skin acne. Choose a mask that contains acne-treating ingredients such as mud or citric acids. These key ingredients help to dry the skin, absorbing excess oil and discouraging acne.

  • Apply acne treatment cream. Choose a cream that contains benzoyl peroxide. The active ingredient will penetrate to under-skin acne, helping to kill bacteria and encourage skin cell regeneration. You can find benzoyl peroxide acne creams in most drug and cosmetic stores.

  • Place a hot compress on your under-skin acne. The heat will draw pus out of the acne, aiding the healing process.

  • Make a paste by mixing equal parts baking soda and water. Apply the mixture to the under-skin acne and let it work there for approximately 20 minutes before rinsing. The baking soda will absorb excess oil and eliminate bacteria, thereby helping to treat your under-skin acne.
  • Drink a lot of water. Water helps to flush acne-causing toxins from your body. It promotes healthy skin by keeping it supple and hydrated from the inside.
