Light Therapy: Giving Birth To Healthy Bodies And Minds!

Light with its natural phenomenal effect has done wonders for man from the time of his existence. Whether it be supplementing vision for our eyes, providing warmth to our body or being the major source of vegetation for our intestines, the benefits of light are what we cannot even think living without! Despite the necessities the sunlight nourishes us with; researches have been made worldwide that a sufficient amount of light everyday promotes a healthy looking skin, an elated mood and a well managed lifestyle. For a few amongst us living in cold and dark regions of the world, these privileges can't be utilized on a thorough basis. Science for this matter has made lives easier for those affected with light deprivation. In the late 1900s, a revolutionary technology of ''Light Therapy'' came into being that transformed lives and lifestyles. Treating one's own self with special light boxes to rejuvenate your skin or uplift your sullen mood not only eliminated the dependence on sunlight, but also introduced to us a new vision on how to live a pampered, healthy life!

Light therapy alleviating mental disorders

Light deprivation may trigger an abnormal mental state in some people whereby the affected experience lethargy and lassitude. Such a prevailing condition may even lead to depression. Seasonal depressions also involve such symptoms. During winters, for example, a delayed sense of satiety makes people feel hungrier as soon as the sun sets with an increased carbohydrate craving, with an added problem of weight gain. Light therapy for this purpose relieves people of the winter blues they might be experiencing, making them more happy and satisfied with their lives.

An extremity of such winter blues may lead to a condition namely Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) whereby the patient experiences extremes of depressive conditions. What light therapy does to cure such state of minds is that the perceived light activates certain hormones in the blood that tend to divert the sullen mood to an exalted state of well being.

Light therapy- a solution to sleeping disorders

People due to a lack of exposure to light can also experience sleeping disorders. This is because the body clock aligns its timings to the external environment through sunlight and it is this body clock that is responsible for our wake-sleep cycle. Light therapy involves managing the internal clock and in turn the wake-sleep cycle, synchronizing your sleep patterns and even correcting sleep phase disorders too.

Light therapy for skin rejuvenation

With the passage of time, collagen production in our body decreases; the latter being the major protein supplementing our body. This is when wrinkles and folds, creases and age marks start appearing on our skin making us feel dull and less vibrant. Light therapy for this purpose increases collagen production diminishing aging signs, making you feel beautiful and more confident about yourself.

The benefits of light therapy can also be extended to acne treatments as well. Slowing down the production of acne bacteria and flourishing an oxygen rich environment that restricts bacteria from reproducing and hence relieves one of the pertinent acne problems.

Light therapy for healing wounds and burns

Stimulating the skin by light can help in healing wounds that occur as a result of serious burns. This procedure is not only less painful but also reduces the risk of infection hence promoting a safe recovery.

No matter how severe any of the aforementioned conditions a person might be suffering from, light therapy surely helps to ease lives.
